Thank you for your patience as district tech worked out the editing issues with our 4th grade web pages! We will be wrapping up Unit 6 and taking the final assessment on Friday. Please check in with your mathematician to make sure he/she has an accurate method for division. Extending multiplication facts, traditional long division, box/area method, and partial quotients were all practiced during this unit.

Today is the last day of math in 2019 and the last day of math in this decade! We will be celebrating with a classic and fun math video and by playing a game or two as well. Over break there is no official homework, however the IXL strands below can be used to help students get a jump start on preparing for our next DCA (District Common Assessment), which we will be taking mid-January.
I enjoy working with our math class and wish you all a very happy break and New Year! I hope you are able to find time to unplug and enjoy some special time with family and friends. Thank you for your continual support around math learning! IXL Strands to Prepare for Upcoming District Common Assessment

In Unit 3 students learned how to compare and order fractions and decimals. In Unit 5 they will deepen their understanding by learning how a fraction can be decomposed (broken down) into smaller parts and added/subtracted to put together or take away some number of same sized parts. Students will extend this idea to adding/subtracting mixed numbers. We will be stretching beyond 4th grade to add/subtract fractions with different denominators, giving students opportunity to use their knowledge around equivalent fractions. Students will also stretch beyond and begin simplifying/reducing fractions. Other topics covered in Unit 5 include creating line plots with data involving fractional units, measuring angles, angle rotations, symmetric figures, and continuing to solve multi-step multiplication number stories. Students will be taking a pre-assessment, which will be used to guide instruction in Unit 5.
