Today we will discuss how to use benchmarks w/visual models OR finding equivalent fractions to compare fractions. Students will then use mathematical models to determine and compare the amount of pizza each student in four different groups receives on a field trip (Veggie Pizza open response problem solving).

Today students explored their Everyday Mathematics (EM4) online accounts. Students can access this account by logging into their MV Gmail/Google account and using the McGraw-Hill Education app, located in the "waffle" or "cube" in the upper right hand corner. Students have access to their EM4 accounts outside of school, wherever they have internet access.
The three areas that were focused on today were the online Student Reference Book (My Reference Book), eToolkit, and the EM4 Games Online. These are all great resources for students to become familiar with. Please note that the Lesson of the Day may not match the actual lesson that we are on in class. This is due to the use of pre-assessing to compact and differentiate instruction. This week we will continue our work with fractions. I will be meeting with small groups for those who need instruction around finding and/or naming equivalent fractions. Whole group mini-lessons will focus on ordering fractions on a number line, and writing fractions as decimals. Students who are ready to dig deeper will be working on problem solving number stories requiring them to apply what they know about fractions. IXL Strands - Fraction Practice
