Today students examined data on the estimated number of times an average person does something in his/her lifetime. They practiced converting rates to ones with smaller units that could be understood more easily. There is no math assignment today.

Unit 11 math tests were returned today. Students scoring below 80% are able to make test corrections and complete error analysis. Corrections will be due by Friday, March 2nd.
Today we will begin Unit 12: Rates. The use of rates is prevalent in the everyday world. The ability to handle rate, ratio, and proportion problems with ease is an indication of good "number sense" and "measurement sense". Unit 12 has two main areas of focus: 1) to introduce rates and provide practice collecting and comparing rate data 2) to provide practice solving rate problems, comparing unit prices, and identifying information needed for comparison shopping. Today we started working in Unit 11: 3-D Shapes, Weight, Volume, and Capacity. We will begin with a review of weight that leads into a discussion about the relationship between weight and capacity. Students will review properties of geometric solids and explore concepts and units of volume. Subtraction of negative integers will also be introduced in Unit 11. The four main area of focus are: 1. Review grams and ounces as units of weight 2. Identify geometric solids, given their properties, 3. Review concepts and units of capacity and volume 4. Introduce subtractions involving positive and negative numbers.
Unit 10 math tests will be graded and returned by Tuesday, February 20th. Learning Targets
