Assignments - working on these during class on Monday & Tuesday
Welcome back from our week long break! Today your child is bringing home their multiplication basic facts work. They took a pre-assessment at the end of October, spent 2-1/2 weeks practicing, and had a final assessment before break. The goal is to complete 80+ within five minutes. Please check in with your child to see how they are progressing. As we continue working with fractions there are benefits to having quick recall of basic facts. Finding equivalent fractions, putting fractions into lowest terms or reducing, and comparing fractions all require multiplication/division. Thank you for checking in with your child and for encouraging them to continue building accuracy and speed.

Assignments - working on these during class on Monday & Tuesday
This week we begin working with fractions. Students took a pre-assessment, which will be used to guide instruction. We will be compacting lessons in order to differentiate learning to match what students need. Based on the pre-assessment most students are coming in with lots of background knowledge around basic concepts related to fractions.
Students will be working on a MasterChef Junior fraction project, where they will adjust a recipe to feed our entire math class. There is NO expectation for students to cook/bake their recipe. They will be focused on making appropriate conversions. More details to come as we get further into our work. I will be gone on Tuesday & Wednesday, attending a leadership workshop in the district. If you have questions or concerns about math please email me and I will respond ASAP. Learning Targets

Everyday Mathematics 4 - Online Student Login (live link) EM4 - Online Resources for Students
Everyday Mathematics 4 has online resources available to students. There are a lot of really useful things available on this site. Today we logged into our accounts and spent time exploring EM Games Online. Students focused on games connected to multiplication, factors, multiples, divisibility, and fact fluency. Students are able to access this resource outside of school. This is a great way for students to continue to build their number sense and fact fluency. Common Conference Night Island Lake is hosting a Common Communication Night for families next Tuesday. I have reached out to families that I need to meet with at this time, however if you have concerns about your child's math experience that you'd like to connect about please let me know. For those who are comfortable with how your child is doing and don't have any questions or concerns please feel free to opt out at this time. We will have another 4th grade common conference night on January 22nd. Learning Targets
